The online learning tool is an effective way for students to experience learning on the computer. They can complete worksheets, word searches, and crossword puzzles on the computer. Then, they can print them out for additional practice and learning. The teachers will have few papers to grade because many online learning tools provide immediate feedback. The students need practice on the skills being taught to ensure comprehension of the material. The activities provide students with more knowledge in the specific content area. When students are engaged in activities that promote learning, extra practice is required. If students are going to master note-naming skills and identification of key signatures, they must be able to retain the material. In music, students must apply their skills in various ways by playing, singing, and dancing. Some ways that students can practice their musical skills are by completing crossword puzzles and multiple choice questions.
The Music Rhythms and Signs crossword puzzle is designed to help students with identifying the parts of the staff and the notes. In order for students to read music, they must know the note values, signs such as the key signature, and musical symbols. The crossword puzzle is designed to enhance the students’ knowledge of reading notes. They will receive extra practice with rhythm and musical signs. The fun part of this activity is that the crossword puzzle is computer-generated. Pencil and paper are unnecessary for the activity. The crossword puzzle can be retrieved at http://www.musictechteacher.com/quiz_rhythmsquiz05.htm.
The Treble and Bass Space Invaders is an online learning tool that helps build note-naming skills and piano skills. The students must be able to name the notes on the musical staff and locate the notes on the piano. The computer-generated activity will let the students know if the are correct or incorrect. The correct answer will be displayed if they are incorrect. At the end of the activity, the score is shown. If the student received a score of at least 80, they will be allowed to play a bonus game. This motivational technique will provide even more practice for students. The activity can be retrieved at http://www.musictechteacher.com/quiz_treble_bass_space_invaders.htm.
The online learning tools provide extra practice for students. The tools can help to promote successful learners in the classroom. Teachers can use the tools as an assessment to determine if students understand the lesson. The musical crossword puzzle and treble and bass clef quiz help students increase their musical skills and musical knowledge. When students can engage in activities that assist with building their skills and knowledge, they will become better students and musicians.
